Everyone Needs a Coach

I believe everybody needs a coach or mentor at some stage in their life and for different areas throughout their journey. All high performing and successful individuals have had a coach or mentor at some point.

Great coaches are specialists in their subject, they’ve done the research, they’ve had the experience, they know how to get the best out of their ‘student’. They can help you identify and focus on what’s important and keep you accountable, getting you to your desired outcome quicker.

Here are some of my coaches and mentors that have had a huge impact on me. Each and everyone of them has provided huge value to my life in many different ways and I can’t thank them enough for the lessons and help they’ve given me.

  • Mike T Nelson - I met Mike in Costa Rica, he is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever come across in the science of strength and conditioning, I did a year of online coaching and programming with him.

  • Charlie at Belgrave Harriers - Charlie is in charge of my running group at Belgrave Harriers. His wisdom, perception of individual athletes and genuine selfless care is beyond any coach I have met. I’ve learnt so much through training with him, his knowledge is invaluable.

  • Mike Causer - I trained with Mike once a week for around 2 years, mostly learning Olympic Weightlifting but he also helped me work on structural balance whilst I was competing in triathlon and my mindset in training.

  • Kim Ingleby - I worked with Kim at the back end of when I was competing in triathlon/duathlon, she helped me with the mental side of racing and taught me many visualisation and NLP techniques.

  • Rachel Guy and David Godfrey - I did their Chase Life Programme at a point in my life where I was feeling very low and had literally had enough of struggling for a year or so with IBS, they helped me take back control and work on dealing with anxiety and overwhelm through their 12 week programme.

  • Will Usher - Was my first triathlon coach, jeez what an experience that was! I credit Will with giving me the confidence to push past barriers I never thought I was capable of. Under his coaching I did the most intense training sessions I’ve ever done, it was those training sessions that made me realise anything is possible and it took my mental strength to the next level.

  • Andy Brodziak - Was another triathlon coach after Will who I went to when I wanted to do a few of the longer distance triathlons as this was his speciality. Andy had a very different approach to Will so it was a valuable learning experience to experience different types of coaching.

  • Tom Crudington - I did Tom’s mentorship programme in Bath for a year or more. I learnt about so many different types of training, martial arts, programming, functional medicine and so much more.
